In honor of Juneteenth, Community Action House dedicated all of Resale Store proceeds on Saturday, June 17, to two local organizations on the forefront of addressing issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in our community. In total, they raised $2,178 in support for Women of Color Give and I Am Academy!
Action House strives to create a radically welcoming and inclusive community. Over the last several years they have worked to develop and strengthen partnerships with DEI focused groups in our community. Beyond Juneteenth support, Action House and I AM Academy partner weekly to increase food access for families in our community through their Mobile Food Pantry.
Women of Color Give is a philanthropic collective that brings together women from diverse backgrounds. Changing the landscape of philanthropy, with a human-centered approach, and empowering those closest to need, while adding diversity to this sector of work. Women of color make up 19% of the U.S. population and only receive 2% of philanthropic pie, which shows how underrepresented they are within philanthropic work.
I Am Academy empowers African American adolescents to reach their full potential, and ultimately change the narrative and trajectory of their communities. The organization provides college experiences, cultivates relationships, facilitates job readiness, helps youth center their identities. African American students are less adequately prepared to compete for desirable jobs, and equitable compensation, when founders Lindsay and Henry Cherry saw the impact of the factors, they decided it was time to take action and formed the model of I am Academy.
One value that Action House encompasses is being collaborative by design, internally and externally. This includes seeking partnerships - because social change is a team sport. Community Action House is proud to partner with I Am Academy and Women of Color Give, to support their efforts.
