As a VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) site, Community Action House offers no cost help to people who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns, including:
People who generally make $68,000 or less
Persons with disabilities; and
Limited English-speaking taxpayers
Appointment scheduling begins on January 15, 2025
Appointments are available:
Wednesdays from Jan 29-April 9 11:00am -8:00pm
Saturday Dates: Feb 15th, March 15th, and April 12th 10:00am-2:00pm

Valid photo ID for you and your spouse (Valid U.S driver’s license, Employer ID, School ID, State ID (U.S.) ,Military ID, National ID, Visa, or Passport
Birthdates and Social Security Cards or ITINs for taxpayers and dependents
Income sources (all W2s, all 1099s) including unemployment
If It Applies:
Copy of your 2023 Return
Business income and expenses
1095-A, Healthcare Marketplace Insurance
Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Michigan Disability (MI-SSI), FIP or DHS benefit letters
Child Support received, alimony paid or received
Child Care Expense Receipts, Provider’s EIN
Gambling/Lottery winnings (W-2G)
Itemizing deductions - Medical Expenses, Mortgage Interest, Charity
Rent Payments, Name/Address of Landlord
Homeowners Property Tax Payments (Statements/Bills)
Direct Deposit Account and Routing Number Information
12/24 or 1/25 Heating Bill that shows Home Heating Credit amount
Appointment generally last 1-1 ½ hours
VITA Greeter will provide an Intake Questionnaire that will be filled out prior to your tax appointment
You are asked to review the list of documents required for your appointment
Your return will be prepared, reviewed for accuracy, and signed by you
You will be provided with a copy of your tax return
Your return will be filed electronically within 24 hours (fastest) or you will be provided with an envelope to mail it
You will be provided with information on how to follow up on your return and what to do if you receive a letter from the IRS related to your return
