About the Awards

Community Action House is a finalist in Chick-fil-A’s “True Inspiration Awards,” a nationally competitive grant program that distributes $5 million to innovative nonprofit organizations across the country each year. Nominated by Holland’s Chick-fil-A location, Action House was one of over 2,400 applicants nationwide. After expert review, Community Action House’s proposal was identified as in the top 46 in the nation and top five in the midwest region. Each of these finalists will now enter a final round of competition for the chance to win up to $200,000 in support. But, Community Action House is counting on community support to secure this full award for our community.

Community members can increase the organization’s chance to win by downloading the Chick-fil-A app and voting for Community Action House. Voting runs September 1-24, and Holland’s Chick-fil-A location is offering a free cookie to anyone who shows proof of voting September 19-24! Supporters can vote any time during the voting window, and redeem their free cookie during the redemption period.*

Community Action House hopes to use these funds to further expand services at their recently opened Food Club & Opportunity Hub. This innovative, membership-based model of food assistance promotes healthy food in a welcoming, high-dignity environment that prioritizes enhancing choice and opportunities for the low-income guests who rely on their services. Since opening in October 2021, the Food Club has already served over 2,100 families. With inflationary pressures pushing so many more family budgets past the breaking point, they’ve recently seen well over 130 families calling on them for support, every day six days a week. 6-7 of these families are brand new guests seeking support for the first time ever, pushing service numbers higher and higher as community needs expand.

Chick-fil-A’s funding would allow the Food Club to grow more quickly and provide greater reach to serve more of the 10,000 individuals who are food insecure in our area.

Holland’s Chick-fil-A and Community Action House are teaming up to encourage voting, promoting the award locally and at Chick-fil-A locations across the state. Partnering around their shared value of “caring through food,” the groups hope to push Action House’s growth into high gear, in order to support as many local families as possible. 

The West Coast Chamber of Commerce has also joined their efforts, encouraging all Holland area residents to vote. Britt Delo, Vice President of Membership and Marketing, shares,
